My brother Ron notified my Sunday he had been diagnosed last Thursday that he has Multiple Myeloma and calcium....... and they started Chemo that day along w/steriods. I am trying to find out if the doctors mentioned staging and he didnt know, I am trying to figure how long and what I can do.
Welcome Jim!
I am sorry to hear about your brother. I joined this website in March because my boyfriend was diagnosed with MM in February. Like you, I want to help him and the best way I could figure out to do that was to educate myself as much as possible. This site has been a Godsend to me! Everyone here is so nice and very helpful.
Since his diagnosis in February, my boyfriend is now on round #4 of chemo (Velcade, Revlimid & Dex). I am very happy to report he is responding quite well. Yes, he has had a few issues with constipation, gout and fatigue but, he continues to go to work and live his life as normally as possible. I am so proud of him!
A lot of strides are being made with new drugs & individualized treatments for MM. My advice to you Jim is to do all the research you can. Knowledge is power. I would also suggest your brother see a Myeloma specialist. He/She should be able to answer all your questions.
Don't ever underestimate the power of prayer.
My thoughts and prayers are with you & your brother.
